ERP Implementation Methodology

The success of ERP depends upon the ERP Implementation methodology used for its implementation to a larger extent. A good implementation methodology leverages intellectual capital and provides successful linkage of work efforts. Information systems technologies are evolved from mainframe based computing through the client server era, to where we are now heading – the Internet era. These distinct phases are marked by parallel development in hardware technologies
Client server era began when computing power delivered at desktop machines increased manifold and matched mainframe computing power. These technologies limited the availability of information services to users within an organisation. The Internet era has brought in the ability to deliver information around the globe. This is made possible with advancements in communication infrastructure.

With the arrival of the Internet, the biggest challenge facing ERP vendors is to address the global access issues and deployment of information systems that will cater to intra-organisation and extra-organisation needs effectively. Over and above these challenges ERP systems need to leverage these technologies to deliver complete (best business practices), usable (high productivity) and adaptable (easy installation and post implementation maintenance) business systems.

ERP Off-shore Methodology

6-step methodology that has been evolved based on our development experience of numerous Offshore projects. This approach uses offshore and onsite implementation.

Step 1 – Project Team Creation

Scope Agreement sign off.
Need to identify key team members for project.

Step 2 – Onsite to Offshore Knowledge Transition

The main goal for this phase is to understand the client requirements, business processes, company standards, the specific systems IT environment as well as the approach that will be used. It’s a huge learning curve.

Step 3 – Offshore Process Definition

Power form customization of the methodology for the client specific requirements.

Step 4 – Offshore Simulation

Simulate client IT environment at offshore development center.
Review and confirm the Service Level Agreements.
Build the Offshore Infrastructure (IT, software and physical). Set up the offshore team.
Metric-defined training of the Offshore Development team.

Step 5 – Offshore Project Execution

Start executing project according to the project plan for the first 6 month period.

Step 6 – Review the project deliverables and identify the weak areas of the implementation

Implement the feedback.
Have the first year Service Agreement review.
